Leicester is a vibrant, exciting city full of history, culture and heritage. The National Space Centre is one of the UK’s most popular attractions, dedicated to science and astronomy. Its distinctively shaped building designed by Nicholas Grimshaw provides fun for all the family with a planetarium and dome cinema.
This ancient city also plays host to a beautiful cathedral where Richard III will be buried. The city shot to international fame in August 2012 when the remains of Richard III were discovered beneath a car park. His body had remained missing for centuries. It confirmed many of the descriptions of him having an abnormal spine. The King Richard III Visitor Centre opens in summer 2014, describing the many fascinating aspects of his life. It is situated on the medieval friary of the Grey Friars where his body was discovered.
Other worthwhile places to visit are the beautiful Bradgate Country Park as well as the University of Leicester’s wonderful Botanic Garden. This remains a fantastic city which should attract visitors from overseas and within the UK.
