Daniel Webb - 10/24/2008 My family and I had an absolutely lovely lunch at San Carlo this afternoon. As our food tasted and smelt so fresh – I MUST recommend the fish dishes! We shared some mussels mariniere and some king prawns to start. The prawns were cooked to perfection, juicy and succulent. Between us we had Shellfish Mediterraneo, Mixed Grill of fish and Sea Bass for main course. Again all cooked perfectly and prepared magnificently. It was nice and busy for a lunch time, we were seated quickly and attended to in a friendly and polite manner. We couldn’t have asked for more! |
Neil Gibbons - 07/08/2008 I had a really nice evening at San Carlo recently and felt I needed to share my experience!
The retsurant is very glamourous, and has a large menu which is great if you have any fussy eaters, or people who don't normally like Italian food.
It was busy, with 75% of tables full, which was surprising as it was a Monday night. However, this didn't affect our service, and we were presented with the wine menus and food meus as we were seated, and had our drinks order taken 5 minutes later, and our food order taken after another 5 minutes. Our food came out quickly, and looked beautiful. The only thing I have to say is that most dishes don't come with potatoes or any sides, so make sure you order these as well.
Overall, an lovely meal in a great restaurant. Highly recommended for a cool place to dine - even in the week! |
Emily Holt - 06/19/2008 I went with a group of friends to San Carlo to celebrate my 18th Birthday recently and was appalled by the service considering they knew it was my birthday. The food itself was good but it felt as if this would be able to make up for the poor service, needless to say it didn't!
I met my friends firstly downstairs at the bar before going to the table, once the table was available we made our way up, however my sister had to wait for her friends to collect their drinks and in the meantime, members of staff removed part of the table so they couldn't sit down even though they knew the amount I booked the table for!
Once we were settled I thought that was it, the waiters seemed ok and it was fine, however the menus were given and pretty much taken straight back so many didn't know what they were ordering and were put on the spot. The food came fast which is ok but worse was the fact that they started to give out dessert menus before the table was even cleared, we asked for abit of time to let our food digest, they said a few minutes, and it was literally 3!
My best friend organised a cake which she said bring out when she asked for it, they ignored this and brought out once they had rushed through the courses and this was a shambles as I have a twin and were not seated together and the whole song and candles were over before I had a chance to reach the cake and consequently the surprise was ruined.
On top of this, throughout our meal the maitre'd and other waiters hovered round our table, too closely, and pointed, organising how they were going to split the table once they'd got ridden of us, we all felt quite unwelcomed.
We refused to pay the service charge at which the manager called my best friend a liar over the cake fiasco then said we had to pay £1 for everyone who had had cake if we weren't to prepared to pay the service charge, which would equal the same amount anyway and i wasn't prepared to do that as they hadn't said we would incur a charge for the cake anyway!
In the end, after much arguing (we couldn't see how the manager could make assumptions and accusations if he hadnt served us!) we had the service charge took off and a free bottle of liquer, (they offered us a free drink in the bar but we said we'd had enough and just wanted to leave)!
Needless to say also, neither me or any of my friends are likely to dine in San Carlo again! Which is shame as the wine list and menu was really good! |
William Brown - 04/23/2008 We spent the weekend with friends in Leicester, and they suggested going out for dinner on the Saturday night to their favourite restaurant.
We were pleasantly suprised when we arrived outside San Carlo - it's such a beautiful restaurant, and looked very glamorous.
The waiters were very Italian, which was nice, as it added to the lovely experience we had. They were very helpful - they recommended dishes that they thought we would like, and advised us on a wines which would complement the dishes.
We had a very nice evening - the restaurant was busy, and the atmosphere was buzzing and friendly. Lovely restaurant - look forward to returning on our next visit to Leicester. |
Dd Furniss - 03/16/2008 We booked a table at what we thought would be a quality restaurant, but were disapointed. The starters were excellent, but after this the main courses were mediocre. I had the salmon ravioli, which was filled with very dry over cooked salmon. We had to wait 35 minutes for our sweets and despite 4 requests did not receive them or any drinks. We were so annoyed by being ignored by the staff we stood up and left the restaurant. I would not recommend anyone choose this restaurant as most in Leicester are much better. The rude attitude of the staff spoilt my birthday celebration. |
